Common name: Tilefish

Malacanthus is a genus of marine fish known commonly as Tilefish. These fish are characterized by their elongated bodies, vibrant colors, and burrowing behavior. They are generally peaceful and can be kept with a variety of other fish in a community tank. Tilefish are known for their ability to create burrows in sandy substrates, which they use for shelter and spawning. They require a well-established tank with plenty of open sand areas and rockwork to mimic their natural habitat. While they are not the easiest fish to keep due to their specific habitat needs, they can be a rewarding addition for experienced aquarists.
