Mauritia is a genus of large predatory marine snails, commonly known as cone snails, cone shells or cones. They are found in warm seas and oceans worldwide and are known for their beautifully patterned shells and potent venom. The venom of these snails is used to capture prey but can be dangerous to humans. In the aquarium, they should be handled with care and not kept with small fish or invertebrates that could become prey. They require a sandy substrate to burrow and a diet of live or frozen meaty foods.
