Genus
Common name: Nautilus
Scientific name: Nautilus
Nautilus is a genus of cephalopods in the family Nautilidae. Often referred to as living fossils, these marine mollusks are known for their distinctive coiled shells and numerous tentacles. Unlike most cephalopods, nautiluses have a slow growth rate and can live up to 20 years. They are found in deep waters of the Indo-Pacific region and are nocturnal predators, feeding on crustaceans and fish. In the aquarium trade, nautiluses are rare and require specialized care, including a chiller to maintain cooler water temperatures.
