Genus

Common name: Mithrodia Starfish

Scientific name: Mithrodia

Mithrodia is a genus of sea stars commonly known as the Chocolate Chip Sea Star due to the dark, conical protrusions on their dorsal surface resembling chocolate chips. These sea stars are popular in the reef aquarium hobby for their striking appearance and relatively easy care. They are omnivorous, feeding on detritus, small invertebrates, and sometimes coral polyps, so caution is advised when introducing them to a reef tank with sensitive corals. Mithrodia species typically prefer moderate lighting and water flow, and they can be excellent scavengers, helping to keep the tank clean.
